uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) in Gauteng will be marching to the National Treasury’s offices to protest over the proposed VAT increase.

Jacob Zuma’s MK Party said the march seeks to highlight harmful effects of VAT increase on low-income households and small businesses.

The party also stressed that the march will focus on issues such as the regressive nature of VAT, its disproportionate impact on the poor, the need for a more equitable tax system, and the challenges that VAT poses for entrepreneurs and small businesses

The MK Party will also be demonstrating against the liquidation of the Ithala Bank.

This comes after the Prudential Authority (PA) has applied for the Pietermaritzburg High Court to provisionally liquidate the provincial government’s state-owned bank.

The party had previously launched a campaign to prevent the bank from liquidation.

MKP’s campaign to save Ithala was an addition to others that have been announced by various concerned groups, including Zulu King Misuzulu.
